What kids hear and How they remember

I had an interesting conversation with Ashley the other day. Her Great Grandpa Reinbold passed away last year(she was 9 at the time) and she was remembering something from the funeral. Here is how our talk went:

Ashley: Mom why is Great Grandma Reinbold president of half the United States?
Me(with a puzzled look on my face)What?
Ashley: Last year at Great Grandpa's funeral after the Knights of Columbus guy folded up the flag and gave it to Great Grandma he called her "president of half the United States".
Me(while trying to hide my smile and contain my laughter) explained that when they handed Great Grandma the flag the Knights of Columbus person said "On Behalf of the President of the United States...."

It is so sweet how innocent thinking can still be around in an almost 11yr old. And how children's minds work, what they remember and how they remember it. I will always cherish these cute things.
